摘要:
Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) are excellent cosmological probes in the local Universe given their high precision as distance indicators. This precision is only achievable by standardising their light curves using empirical relations found between their optical peak brightness and other light-curve parameters, such as stretch and colour, and even host-galaxy properties. In the near-infrared, SNe Ia seem to be actual standard candles, where no such relations are needed. In this talk, I will present a machine-learning approach to search for an alternative standardisation of SNe Ia in the optical, with the goal of improving their precision in distance estimations and finding possible systematics related to their traditional standardisation. In addition, this analysis presents a possible standardisation of their near infrared light curves, not seen before, which would improve their usefulness at these wavelengths. During this talk, I will also take the opportunity to present the FLOWS project, involving SNe Ia for measuring the growth rate of structures, and HostPhot, an open-source code for obtaining galaxy images and photometry from different surveys, helpful in the determination of host-galaxy properties for SN Ia cosmology.
