摘要:
Dust plays an important role in shaping the galaxy emissions and chemistry in the interstellar medium (ISM). Meanwhile, we have not fully understood how dust evolves in the ISM, mainly due to the lack of spatially resolved observations to constrain dust evolution models. One key observable that can reveal dust evolution is the dust-to-metals ratio (D/M) – the fraction of metals locked in solid grains in the interstellar medium. In this talk, I will talk about how we use multiwavelength observations to derive D/M at ~kpc scales in the nearby galaxies. With auxiliary data, we measure how D/M depends on local physical quantities and use these measurements to constrain parameters affecting dust evolution. We also use the environmental dependence of D/M to constrain the variation of the CO-to-H2 conversion factor. Formulas that model the decrease of CO-to-H2 conversion factor in galaxy centers are favored in our tests.
