In this talk I will give an overview of the relationship between supernovae and their host galaxies. Studies of supernova host environments have been crucial in understanding the supernova progenitor systems and explosion mechanisms. They also provide valuable insights into the evolution of galaxies. I will firstly discuss recent host studies on explosions of massive stars, such as Type II supernovae and Superluminous supernovae. I will then focus on host galaxies of Type Ia supernovae, how they can be used to constrain the progenitor systems and improve the cosmology.
