"Towards understanding massive galaxy formation"

時間/地點: 2017-04-21 11:00 [S4-1013]

摘要:

Although the standard model of cosmology — cold dark matter with a cosmological constant (LCDM) —is extremely successful in describing observations of the large scale structure, many aspects of galaxy formation remain to be understood, including the assembly history of brightest cluster galaxies (BCGs), and the properties of dwarf galaxies. In this talk, I will focus on the formation of massive galaxies ‐‐ those with mass comparable or more massive than our own Milky Way ‐‐ and present our work on (1) the assembly history of BCGs, based on the data from the Subaru HyperSuprimeCam Survey, (2) the incidence of active galactic nuclei (AGN) in the course of the evolution of galaxies, and (3) the phenomenon of assembly bias. I will end with prospects on furthering our knowledge on the massive galaxy assembly by tools for studying the connection between galaxies and their host dark matter halos.
