The application of statistics can quantify information embedded in scientific data and estimate the relevance of theoretical models. Regression method is very common in many scientific area. In this talk, I will introduce local regression method such as LOWESS, Splines, and Kriging which can be used to estimate velocity dispersion in instead of arbitrary binning or make non-parameter smooth fitting from data point.
