"An Overview of LAMOST Highlights in the RAA Special Issue"

By the time of this talk, the ongoing LAMOST Galactic survey have collected more than 500 stellar spectra with SNR better than 10 per pixel. A lot of work starts based on this survey has been published, and most of them are based on the LAMOST Data Release 1. In this talk, I will briefly review the scope and motivation and some early results of the survey. We expect that the the legacy data of the complete 5 years survey will yields more detailed knowledges about the distribution, kinematics and chemistry of Galactic stellar population within a few kpc of the sun, which will contribute to the understanding of local mater density, formation and evolution of our Galaxy and galaxies.
